Get To Know Us: Q&A Time! with Maggie

June 08, 20263 min read

As our business has grown, so has the team behind it - and the way we support our clients.

These days, working with Resonate isn’t just about one person. It’s a team effort, with each of us playing a different role to make sure everything runs smoothly and our clients are well supported.

We often get questions about who does what, and (especially!) a bit of curiosity about the people behind the scenes - so we thought we’d put together a quick Q&A to introduce ourselves properly.

Finally... meet Maggie!

Maggie Wylie Chartered Accountant for small businesses in New Zealand

1. What’s your role at Resonate, and what do you spend most of your time doing?

I spend most of my time preparing annual accounts and tax returns, along with the odd GST return as needed. A big part of myroleis helping clients make sure they’re paying the right amount of tax and staying on top of deadlines, especially when cash flow is tight and things feel stressful.

I enjoy helping clients understand what’s coming up ahead of time so there are fewer surprises and they can feel more in control of their business finances.

2. What’s your background, and what led you here?

Most of my accounting experience has been in commercial environments, but through my husband running his own small business for many years, I saw firsthand how much business owners need helpful accountants, not just someone who turns out the numbers once a year.

That’s what drew me to this kind of work. I enjoy helping people actually understand what’s going on in their business and making things feel less overwhelming.

3. What do you enjoy most about working with small business clients?

I really enjoy helping clients understand their numbers and be more prepared for the bigger cash flow issues ahead.

A lot of business owners carry stress around not knowing where things are at financially, and I like being able to help make them feel more comfortable and confident about what’s going on in their business, instead of lying awake at night worrying about it.

4. What do you see business owners getting stuck on - and what does it look like when things are working well?

We often see business owners unsure about how much tax they need to pay and when it’s due, which can create a lot of stress and pressure.

What that usually leads to is people feeling caught off guard when payments come up, especially if they haven’t had the chance to put money aside throughout the year.

When things are working well, clients know what’s coming, they’ve planned ahead, and they have money set aside for tax payments so it all feels much more manageable and straightforward.

That peace of mind makes a huge difference.

5. Quick one - what does life look like outside of work for you?

Outside of work, I’m a busy mum of three, so when I’m not working I’m usually fitting in after-school activities, baking, and little adventures with the kids.

I also run every day and am currently on a non-stop running streak of over 200 days, along with doing Pilates daily. That’s my “me time” and helps keep my mind clear amongst the chaos of everyday life.
